When I first learned about green roofs, I instantly said, isn’t that weird for a garden located at the roof? I saw an image that an old woman was like watering her plants on their roof; I just got scared because the roof has the usual shape not suitable for gardening instead of a flat surface which is obviously more ideal. Nevertheless, green roofs are becoming widely popular especially on tropical countries.
I can name at least five ecological benefits of incorporating a green roof to your home instead of using traditional black or white reflective membrane roofs:
1. It reduced energy cost plus helps in storm water management.
2. It reduces heat especially on crowded cities.
3. Hot air from an air conditioner to the atmosphere is reduced.
4. The city cools faster.
5. Extends roof life and effective for sound insulation.
Due to the ability of plants to transpire and also shade, noteworthy use of green roofs all through large cities can cause a cooling effect, lowers the high temperature in city environments plus a cool way of having a green investment.
